Our Family Trip to Wengen, Switzerland with Kids

Two years ago, our family took a trip to Switzerland that we absolutely loved, so we knew we wanted to go back. There is just something magical about the Swiss Alps, and Wengen, Switzerland quickly became one of those places that felt special to our whole family.

This time, my husband and I traveled with our two kids and my mom for a week in Wengen. Traveling with three generations made the trip even more memorable. We got to experience the mountains together, spend plenty of time outside, and, most importantly, slow down and enjoy being together.

A Week in Wengen, Switzerland

Wengen is the kind of place where you can wake up, look outside, and immediately feel like you are on a postcard.

Surrounded by the Swiss Alps, Wengen has incredible mountain views everywhere you look. One of the things we loved most about our trip was that we didn’t feel like we needed to have a packed itinerary every single day.

Sometimes, we simply enjoyed the views.

With two young kids, I have learned that some of the best family vacations aren’t necessarily the ones where you are constantly checking things off a list. The mountain playgrounds, fresh air, beautiful scenery, and slower pace made Wengen a perfect place for our family.

Switzerland with Kids

One of our favorite things about visiting Switzerland with kids was discovering all of the mountain playgrounds.

The playgrounds aren’t your typical neighborhood playgrounds. Imagine your kids running around and playing while you are surrounded by huge Swiss mountains!

It was such a fun way for our kids to enjoy the destination while my husband, my mom, and I could take in the scenery.

The kids didn’t need elaborate activities to be entertained. They could run, climb, explore, and play while we enjoyed the incredible views around us.

Honestly, that’s one of the things I love about traveling with kids. You can take them somewhere completely amazing, and sometimes their favorite part is simply finding a playground.

Taking Time to Enjoy the Views

One of the biggest reasons we wanted to return to Wengen was the scenery.

The Swiss Alps are absolutely breathtaking, and there were so many moments when we simply stopped to take it all in.

There is something different about being surrounded by mountains every day. The views seem to change depending on the weather, the time of day, and where you are standing.

We loved having time to relax instead of feeling like we had to rush from one activity to another.

We could walk around town, find a beautiful view, let the kids play, and just enjoy being together.

Traveling with Three Generations

Having my mom come with us made this trip even more special.

I love that my kids get to experience travel with their grandmother and create memories together. Traveling with three generations isn’t always the simplest thing, but I think it makes the memories even more meaningful.

There were plenty of moments throughout the week that I know we will all remember for years to come.

Family trips like this are a good reminder that traveling isn’t always about seeing as many places as possible. Sometimes it’s about choosing one beautiful place and giving yourself enough time to actually enjoy it.

Why We Wanted to Go Back to Wengen

When we visited Wengen two years ago, we knew we wanted to return someday.

There are so many places in the world that I would love to visit, but there are also those special places that you want to experience again.

Wengen was one of those places for us.

Going back felt a little different this time because our kids were older, and we got to experience the destination in a new way as a family. We already knew how beautiful the mountains were, but seeing our kids enjoy them made the trip feel completely different.

It was fun watching them explore, play, and take in the scenery.

A Relaxing Family Vacation in the Swiss Alps

Our week in Wengen wasn’t about trying to see everything in Switzerland.

It was about slowing down.

It was about mountain views, playgrounds, walking around town, spending time with family, and enjoying the fact that we were all together in one of the most beautiful places we have ever visited.

Sometimes the best travel memories are the simple ones.

Sitting outside with a beautiful view.

Watching the kids play.

Walking through a mountain village.

Spending time with my mom.

Having dinner together after a day outside.

Those are the moments that make me want to keep traveling with my family.

Would We Go Back to Wengen Again?

Absolutely!

Our first trip to Wengen was two years ago, and after returning for another week, I can definitely understand why we loved it so much the first time.

Wengen is beautiful, peaceful, family-friendly, and surrounded by some of the most incredible mountain scenery we have ever seen.

If you are considering a family trip to Switzerland, I would definitely put Wengen on your list to research. It was such a wonderful place for our family to spend a week together.

And now I guess the big question is…

Where in Switzerland should we go next?

For now, I’m just grateful that we got another week in the mountains with my husband, my mom, and our two kids. These are the kinds of family memories I hope we continue making for many years to come.
